Mahadhdhoo Island in Gaafu Alifu Atoll is a dream destination. Set in the picturesque Maldives and surrounded by the serene waters of the the Indian Ocean, the 119,000 square metre piece of land is popular with tourists and is home to some of the best luxury resorts in the region.

The Ministry of Tourism Maldives has a direct head lease agreement for the island until 2056.

Following the unprecedented success of JLL Hotels and Hospitality Group's sale of the majestic Reethi Beach Resort two months ago, the Bank of Maldives has decided to put Mahadhdhoo Island up for sale through the global real estate group.

The gorgeous getaway would be a wise property development decision for any investor. The island is a two-stage journey from Kooddoo Airport, with only a 45-minute flight and then a 20-minute speedboat ride required.

It represents an opportunity that would allow the investor freedom to complete the development to their own standards and time frames and operate the resort in line with their strategic and operational requirements.

Executive Vice President Hotels and Hospitality Group Asia Pacific JLL Nihat Ercan said the island is a bright prospect.

"Mahadhdhoo Island represents an exceptional opportunity for an investor to develop a new resort in an island paradise with stunning natural beauty. Opportunities to acquire resorts with direct government leases are highly-sought after in the Maldives and the new owner may also benefit from legislative amendments allowing for the extension of lease tenures to a maximum of 99 years," he explained.
