Indonesia is open for business

Southeast Asia is becoming a powerful economic region and Indonesia is at the helm of this rise.

Last month Jakarta hosted the World Economic Forum which welcomed leaders from across the globe.

The message at the gathering was loud and clear, the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) present an impressive investment opportunity and Indonesia's business friendly climate is lending it political stability and support.

Property development firm JLL's Head in Indonesia Todd Lauchland said the region is abuzz with positive energy thanks to the government's hands-on approach.

"The new government is very much open for business," he added.

"If you have a problem call me"

The President of Indonesia Joko Widodo delivered the opening address at the forum.

It was obvious from the get-go that the leader has big aspirations to introduce reforms to Southeast Asia's biggest economy.

His famous words "If you have a problem call me" resonated with business leaders who are already eyeing the country for the development potential it offers. With a population of 250 million people, the president indicated the Indonesia has a lot of promise for foreign investors.

A testament to the strength of the country's economy is the buoyancy it displayed during the global recession in the late 2000s. According to the Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore Kishore Mahbubani, Indonesia has "inner resilience".

This means the tenacious domestic market has provided a cushion from the effects of the international economic downturn.

Earlier this year in a bid to attract overseas capital the country introduced its "one-stop integrated service" for investment permits at the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

The Indonesian government is determined to achieve an an ambitious 5.7 per cent year on year GDP growth in 2015.
