Could more construction jobs lead to more property development?

With Hays revealing that current levels of demand for construction jobs in Australia are among the highest in recent times, this could be a boost to the country's property development sector.

Toward the end of October, the recruitment firm released its Hays Quarterly Report covering October to December 2014, which looks at which roles and skills are currently most in demand across the country. It found that with Australia's construction sector growing at its fastest rate in nearly a decade, plenty of new jobs in the industry are being created.

"The market continues to improve and we expect to see recruitment activity positively influenced by the property boom, with construction teams looking to build up their operational capabilities," explained Hays Construction's Regional Director, Adam Shapley.

"The commercial construction sector appears to be following the lead of new residential construction, which is a very promising sign for the generation of new jobs."

According to the recruitment company's report, contract administrators, fit-out professionals and project managers are among the skill areas that are the highest in demand in the construction sector. Mr Shapley revealed that contract administrators in building sectors are particularly sought after, especially if they possess large-scale residential development experience.

"In Western Australia, there has been a huge demand for residential properties ranging from single, double or triple storey dwellings to high rise apartment projects. As a result, project managers with experience working on projects valued between $5-10 million are highly sought," he said.

With Australia's property sector very much in the midst of a boom, it's no surprise that skilled employees are enjoying such levels of demand. In addition to securing the manpower to do the job, businesses can take advantage of property valuation and development software to make the most of their efforts.
