With the final round of the Australian Superbike Championship now done and dusted, Darren Jones riding his Estate Master Ducati came away with his head held high.

In the AFX Championship held on Saturday, Darren claimed first in his class winning all 3 races and finished a creditable 3rd outright in the 25-bike field.

The Estate Master Ducati was going really well, commented Jones, "I bettered my PB at this track twice today and to finish on the podium along side Craig Mcmartin (7 times Australian Pro Twins Champion) and Kevin Curtain (Runner up World Super sport Championship), was a real buzz.  Those guys are fast".

On Championship Sunday all was going well having qualified 3rd on the grid for race 1, eventually finishing 5th outright and again 1st in class setting another PB 1:35:6 on the way.

Although race 2 was set to be tough as the heat rose and track temp was now nearing 60C, it wasn't to be. Whilst in 3rd place Jones had a bike issue where the front brakes were starting to fail. On lap 4, whilst Jones wasn't happy to forgo another podium finish, he thought best to come out firing in race 3 and retired.

With a progressive grid Jones had to start Race 3 from the back in 20th spot.

By then the air temp was near 40c and track temp near 70c so it was going to be tough to make it through the field.

Nothing was going to stop Jones though as he went from last at the start to finish on the podium again in 3rd place and again winning his class.

That last race was a lot of fun. I made multiple passes in the first couple of laps that set me up for the run to the finish. It was hard in the heat but I just had to block it out. I really wanted to get on the podium again and finish off on a good note.

On the 2nd last lap, 3rd placed bike Paul Dutton failed to cover the inside line at turn 2 so I took the opportunity to make the pass and held on from there, again finishing in 3rd spot outright.

What a great way to finish off said Jones. I’m disappointed not to have finished all 3 races today but to Win my class and get 3rd outright yesterday was fantastic.
